20 July 2011-“Cos. should optimize cost of automation systems” – Bhagath

Coimbatore: “Industry automation is still machine-centric. It would make sense for Indian companies to optimize the cost of automation systems by leveraging existing standards and open components,” says Mr K Bhagath, Chief Executive and Managing Director, Kalycito Infotech Private Ltd.

In the run-up to the Open Automation Technologies Conference 2011, scheduled to take place tomorrow at The Residency here, Mr Bhagath, while explaining the significance of conducting such an event here said, “in the past, it was easy because pure mechanical systems were used in automation. But with electronics and software systems in place, companies – particularly the small and mid-sized ones — will have to turn to open systems and benefit from savings due to maintenance, interoperability, upgradability, scalability and so on. Unlike closed proprietary systems, open systems don’t lead to vendor lock up situations,” he added.

In opting for open automation technologies, companies will not have to worry about patents, there is no royalty involved, no copyright or vendor lock up situation, he added.
